The Barker's Brewery
The bar was based on the site of Barker's Brewery, kept running by the siblings Richard and William Barker and was established on this site in 1825. The bottling works site stretched out forward onto what is presently the double carriageway.
Before Barker's Brewery was the first Rose and Crown, when an instructing hotel which quit exchanging as an open house in 1938 and was destroyed for street enlarging in 1967.
The public house was worked during the 1930s and named after the close by Rose and Crown, which stopped exchanging around then. In 2003 it was renamed The Wheatsheaf, after another close by bar. It is presently named The Barker's Brewery, after the bottling works that was established on this site, in 1825, and kept running by the siblings Richard and William Barker.
These premises were repaired by J D Wetherspoon in January 2011
