Bate Hall Maccelsfield

This sixteenth century building was already home to the Earl of Courtown and was once home to the Stopford family and different parliamentarians.

Oliver Cromwell is recorded as remaining here on a few events. In this way the Bate Hall was authorized as an Inn in 1810 and has stayed in that capacity since.

Inside you will discover numerous unique highlights, for example, delightful old oak shafts, the fine Jacobean staircase and an old Priest Hole which used to shroud men of the congregation amid the period when Catholics were oppressed by law in England.
