Once a lively public house at the heart of the local community, it proudly displayed the famous Higsons Brewery livery, featuring the classic “liver bird and hop leaf” design—a symbol of Merseyside’s proud brewing heritage. Though the taps have long run dry, this old public house has found new purpose as a thriving community centre. Yet, behind its modern use, whispers of its haunted past still remain.

The Mystery Beneath

Beneath The Linacre lies a story few know. The building was originally constructed with two cellars, one built above the other. The lower cellar ran alongside the canal, once serving thirsty canal workers, while the upper cellar opened onto Linacre Lane, welcoming a very different crowd. These separate worlds—divided by brick and purpose—have left their mark. The residual energy from centuries of laughter, labour, and loss has created an atmosphere charged with mystery.
